First Battle of Ypres

Post by monk2002uk »

We were able to reproduce the terrain around Gheluvelt using the Hexon terrain system. The process has been described elsewhere. The After Action Report and photos can be found here.

Hi,
Just been looking at the photos in your game report - very impressive set up! A huge amount of work must have gone into this game and I think the elevated information stands above the table seemed to work very well indeed. They were high enough above the table as to not distract from the terrain and figures and get clearly communicated positional information. A great idea, really well done!
Kind regards
Paul

Thank you, Paul. We are putting together several scenario books at the moment. Needless to say, the table generated a lot of questions about how we had achieved the terrain contours. My thought was to include Hexon terrain 'maps', with each contour defined. I liked the templates that your team created. I will post the First Ypres examples for feedback and comment.

Here are the Hexon contour layers for the First Ypres scenario that we played:

The contour lines are based on battle maps from the period.
