The British cavalry regiments in 1914 each had a HMG section which transported the machine guns and ammunition on horseback. They had a better deal than the infantry battalions who carried their guns and ammunition by hand, sometimes using a 'stretcher' for the gun. The British Vickers was significantly lighter than the German Maxim and therefore in theory easier to lug around. To transport and operate a HMG and keep it supplied with ammunition required a large team of men. The Belgians used dog teams pulling trolleys, but this method proved unsuitable for rough terrain.

To ianjgow, I found a transportation for French HMG for Chasseur à Cheval in an old L-F Funcken (L'uniforme et les armes des soldats de la guerre 1914-1918). It look's like a light Wagon.
I cannot resist the pleasure to put here my first Germans et the first (little) engagement with frenchies.

WW1 Early War - 3 more packs to be added to the WW1 Early War range.

WW1-BG07 Belgian Early War Dragoons - (16 figures + 4 bases)
WW1-BG08 Belgian Early War Dismounted Dragoons Firing - (32 figures + 4 bases)
WW1-BG09 Belgian Early War Dragoon Horse Holders and Mounts (16 mounts 4 horse holders plus 4 bases)
