battle of Gilly June 15th 1815

Post by chopperboydan »

The Joy of Six Show in Sheffield gave me an opportunity to put on a skirmish level game using my Adapted (Napoleonic) Hordes and Heroes rules, "A HARD POUNDING GENTLEMEN" . Paul and Tony joined myself and lee an old friend from uni to playtest the rules and tweek anything that seemed wrong. The pictures that follow are from the skirmish. Napoleon was Killed at the head of an Old Guard Battalion from the lucky die rolls of Tony!!!!! ;) The Prussians held the French off for some time before Numbers overwhelmed the small holding force. A most enjoyable game. The stats used will be published here very soon.

So there you have it, a fast easy to play Mass Napoleonic game using the core of the Hordes & Heroes rules with new napoleonic unit stats and some period specific adaptations such as form square formation.....rules to be published very soon. Give it a go :)

One adjustment to the rules to suggest though... Infantry cannot form square in difficult terrain.. especially in rivers.,

Yes that's a fair point they would struggle! :), I think I will make crossing streams and rivers easier too as it did take an age to get over it.I will just use river hexes as 2 hex points to cross , obviously wider rivers of 2 or more hex width will take longer , if deemed fordable :)

I agree with the suggestion about making the crossing of fordable rivers easier. What about; all units must stop in a hex adjacent to a river hex before entering in their next movement phase; spend the next movement phase occupying the river hex during which they fight as if disrupted; they then leave the river hex and occupy an adjacent hex which again takes a full movement phase; they can then move as normal in the following movement phase.

With wide rivers of two hexes or more a unit must spend a full move in each river hex, during which time it fights 'as if disrupted' until it leaves the river and forms up on a bank hex.
Kind regards
Paul
