Sand bags

Post by David Frampton »

anyone any thoughts on making scale sandbags? I thought of salt dough or miliput, in strips, then cut/pinched with a knife. Anyone tried this or have a better alternative??

I will be trying 20mm scale sandbags using air drying clay. I intend to roll strips out and flatten them, and then pinch cut at set distances, which would hopefully flatten the ends to make it look bags like. The plan is to stack exactly like a sandbag wall. Time consuming but I hope it will be effective.

For some 20mm stuff, I have used plastic sandbags bought from a rail model shop. They were on a sprue with old drums and wooden crates.

They are HO/OO scale and I am wondering whether such places would do the same in 'N' gauge, which is pretty much spot on for 10 / 12mm.
